Venue and transportation:

The workshop will be held at Sol Cress Domain, just a stone’s throw from the town of Spa, world famous for its thermal baths and water. The town of Spa is nestled in a luxuriant valley of Wallonia in Belgium, at the heart of Europe.

The town of Liege, 45 km from Spa, will be the starting and ending point for the workshop. Bus shuttle from and back to Liege will be provided by the workshop organization. 

International airport in Belgium is Brussels Airport, with direct flights to a large number of places in Europe and the world. Paris - Charles de Gaulle in France, Frankfurt and Düsseldorf in Germany are other main international airports close to Belgium. 

Liege is easily accessed by train (Liege-Guillemins station), with direct transfer by high speed train from/to Brussels, Paris, Frankfurt and Düsseldorf and national trains from Brussels Airport (with one connection at Leuven or Brussels Nord station). Belgium is a cosmopolitan country. Be aware that the name of the city of Liege is Luik in Dutch and Lüttich in German... 

The starting and ending points of the workshop will be the Liege main train station (Liege-Guillemins station). Meeting time is 9h00 am on Thursday 28. The workshop will end on Saturday 30 afternoon at the same place.











Accommodation and meals:

The workshop organization will provide accommodation and all meals to the workshop participants from Thursday 28 in the morning to Saturday 30 afternoon (all inclusive). In particular, the registration fees include the workshop material, meals and drinks (including workshop banquet), lodging (single - 2 nights), technical tour and transfers from/to Liege main train station.

If needed, you can book additional night (Wednesday 27 or Saturday 30 for instance) at Husa hotel - La couronne in front of the train station. Other hotels are also located close to the train station.

Meals will be provided in one of the restaurant of Sol Cress Domain. To access this area, you must be wearing your name badge. Workshop dinner will take place in a restaurant close to Spa. A special tourist visit is likely to occur before the dinner.

Special dietary requirements:

Arrangements will be made for you provided you advised any special dietary requirements in advance of the workshop. Regrettably, we may not be able to respond to special dietary needs that have not been advised in advance.


Oral presentations will be 20 min long + 10 min of discussion. A computer with MS PowerPoint 2010 will be available in the workshop room. Speakers are expected to provide their slides before the sessions directly on the computer or to send them not later than Monday 25 August 2014 to the workshop secretariat. Speakers will have the possibility to use their own laptop for presentations. A video projector will be available.


English will be the workshop language during working sessions. Other languages will be welcome during all other social events and activities.

Technical tour:

A one-day technical tour will take place on Saturday 30 August 2014. We will visit 2 large dams and 2 hydropower stations. As August is summer time in Belgium, please allow sun protections, but also a light rain jacket. Closed shoes are also required for the visits.
